Charity named after the little girl it helped to get pioneering brain tumour treatment in America
Story from Wales Online.
Freya Bevan’s mum and dad have launched a Wales arm of Kids ‘n’ Cancer charity in their daughter’s name
The parents of a three-year old girl who had lifesaving treatment for a rare brain tumour have launched a branch of the charity which helped save her life – and they’ve named the branch after her.
John-Paul and Katherine Bevan of Neath have begun a Welsh branch of Kids ‘n’ Cancer – the charity which stepped in to help their daughter, Freya, when she had proton beam therapy treatment in America.
It was launched at the Glyn Clydach Hotel in Neath and has the backing of Steve Tandy, head coach of the Ospreys.
Freya was diagnosed with a rare primitive neuroectodermal (PNET) tumour in April 2014 and was turned down for NHS funding.
Her parents contacted Chesterfield-based Kids ‘n’ Cancer for help and in less than a week, the family were on a plane heading to Oklahoma, where they spent 10 weeks with Freya while she underwent the specialist treatment.
